Voters in the Town of Union Vale will head to the polls this election season to weigh in on whether the town should “own and operate a public library.”

To offset taxpayer costs, renovations to transform the second floor of an old dairy barn into the library at the town-owned Tymor Park will be funded by donations and grants from the Union Vale Library Fund, a non-profit, with operating costs, and the ability to access federal and locally-funded programs – currently restricted to town cardholders – to be funded by the town’s annual budget, if approved by voters.

A Q+A session on the proposal with library trustees, library fund members and the town board will take place this Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 7-8pm at the library, located at 8 Tymor Park Road in Lagrangeville.

After failing in May, voters in the Red Hook School District will once again vote on several capital improvement propositions, including whether to upgrade the school’s athletic facilities to an artificial turf field, during a special referendum vote on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. 

“The newly created propositions include projects that were part of an all-encompassing proposition declined by voters in May,” the district noted. “Those projects are split into two propositions for the October ballot, with additional verbiage stipulating a proposed artificial turf multipurpose field can only be constructed using materials that are recyclable and do not include intentionally added forever chemicals. A third proposal introduces a new grass field restoration project on separate field space from where the turf would be installed.”

The passage of Propositions 2 and 3 are dependent on the passage of Proposition 1. 

Voting will be open on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from noon to 9pm in the Red Hook High School Performing Arts atrium. Anyone registered to vote in the Red Hook Central School District boundaries is eligible to vote. 

Early voting for the 2024 General Election begins this Saturday, October 26, 2024, and will run until Sunday, November 3, 2024.
