Heat index values will hit the triple digits again this week, prompting a heat advisory from 11am Tuesday until 7pm on Wednesday.

According the National Weather Service in Albany, heat index values up to 103-degrees are expected on Tuesday, and up to 98-degrees on Wednesday.

It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning and take frequent breaks if working outside.

Ulster County has activated its cooling centers beginning Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 17 from 9am to 7pm daily. Ulster’s designated cooling centers are the 2nd Iglesia La Mision Church, located at 80 Elmendorph Street in Kingston, and the Trudy Center at 50 Center Street in Ellenville.

Due to the heat, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging Summer Picnic for older residents of the Towns of North East, Pine Plains, Stanford and Washington (including Villages of Millbrook and Millerton) has been postponed to Friday, July 24, 2026 at Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains.

Following a $4.2 million refurbishment project, the Palisades Interstate Park Commission and the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that the Bear Mountain Pool has officially opened for the season. The extensive work included the installation of new pumps and filters, replacement of the pumproom building, and the replacement of portions of the pool deck.

Construction for the spring-fed quarry pool in Kingston has wrapped up, according to New York State Parks representatives, but an official opening date is still to be announced.

Recent construction plans at the Sojourner Truth Park in Ulster County includes a new park entrance off of Route 32 in Kingston, upgraded trails, restrooms, a 12,000-square-foot floating swim crib to offer a safe learning environement for swimmers, as well as a “more adventurous” deep-swim area, and surrounding beach area.

Public hearings to consolidate the Village and Town of New Paltz will continue at the Village Hall on Wednesday, July 15 and July 29, 2026 at 7pm. 

The Village Board of Trustees and the Town Board stated that it is their “shared judgement that a consolidated town can more effectively and efficiently deliver services, plan for the future and be more accountable to residents.” If approved through a future public referendum, the proposed date of consolidation would be January 1, 2028.
