Artist-inspired pavilions planned for art center
The hilltop of 190-acres on Route 66 in Chatham will soon be dotted with 18 artist-designed pavilions with rotating exhibitions. Breaking ground next month, the Art Omi Pavilions @ Chatham (AOP) “aims to sustain the aesthetic coherence of distinguished artists’ oeuvres and significant collectors’ holdings by welcoming them to create legacy, standalone exhibitions of their work. Each artist or collector will collaborate with an architect of their choice to design their pavilion to showcase their work in a setting that they control and design.”
According to organizers: These Pavilions are slated to be part of a larger art center, including a visitor center and rotating exhibition Pavilion, which will provide cultural context, museological standards, and visitor services. The existing Art Omi arts center in Ghent has extensive year-round arts education programming for students, and the Art Omi Pavilions project will include an expansion of the Art Omi education program in the form of a separate dedicated education wing in the visitor’s center.
On Thursday, June 27 at 6pm, Francis J. Greenburger, Art Omi Founder, and Lee Skolnick, SKOLNICK Architecture + Design Partnership Founding Partner and Principal, will discuss Art Omi Pavilions @ Chatham (AOP) The Biennial Exhibition Pavilion, designed by SKOLNICK Architecture + Design, during a virtual event hosted by The National Arts Club. The virtual discussion is free to attend, with advance registration requested. Register
