Marist grad kicks his way to a historic Super Bowl win
2013 Marist graduate Jason Myers scored big this weekend with the Seattle Seahawks, breaking the record for the most field goals ever made in a Super Bowl, clutching the ‘hawks 29-13 win over the Patriots.
But the Super Bowl feat was not the first time placekicker Myers made history.
According to Marist Athletics, during his time playing at Marist from 2009-12, Myers hit the game-winning field goal with two seconds remaining in a 23-21 triumph over Georgetown as a freshman in 2009. As a junior in 2011, he hit a 49-yard field goal at Davidson, which set a program record that has since been tied but never surpassed.
“Watching Jason grow from his time at Marist into one of the best in the world has been one of the joys of my career,” said Coach Jim Parady, who retired in 2023.
Myers started his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015. After three seasons in Jacksonville, he made his first Pro Bowl appearance as a member of the New York Jets in 2018. He signed a multi-year contract with Seattle in 2019, and he then signed a multi-year extension in the winter of 2023 following his second selection to the Pro Bowl.
Myers is second Marist representative to play in a major sports championship/series, following Rik Smits ’88, who played in the 2000 NBA Finals with the Indiana Pacers.
