Forest Bathing in Croton-on-Hudson

Aside from reading this incredibly informative, free weekly newsletter: How much time do you spend on your phone or computer or staring at your TV or being dinged by your smartwatch?

Now: How much time do you spend in nature? Not taking photos, tracking your steps, or anything else… just… being there, among the trees. Listening to the birds, the babbling brooks, the crunch of the ground, and seeing what footprints are there, aside from your own.

When we intentionally slow ourselves down and awaken our senses, we can find a sense of connection with parts of ourselves and the natural world that we may not have even noticed we were missing.

Forest bathing is the Japanese-inspired act of doing just that: being in nature and connecting to our surroundings through a slow-paced, whole body mini-retreat. Studies have found that practicing forest bathing can lead to lower stress, better sleep, lower blood pressure and inflammation, and improved immunity.

Join a guided Forest Bathing Session on Saturday, February 10, at noon in Croton-on-Hudson. Wool blankets, cushions and a special, wild-foraged tea will be provided: eventbrite.com/e/a-lunar-new-year-guided-forest-bathing-session-registration-799161703167

In addition, Fru of Forest Baths is offering calendars, mugs and prints on the HVNY Marketplace. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Lenape Center:

Updated! Forest Baths 2025 Calendar
$35.00

Updated for 2025! Each month features a gorgeous "collage-bouquet" of seasonal plants and pollinators that are part of the unique and beautiful ecosystems here on Lenapehoking land (lower Hudson Valley of New York). Most of these are common throughout the northeastern United States. Makes a perfect gift for hikers, gardeners, and plant nerds of all stripes.

Native species are a huge part of this, but non-native ornamentals are intentionally included with relatively little value to pollinators – like peonies – because their beauty serves a vital role in enlisting humans to care for, heal and defend the land.

50% of profits from all of Forest Bath merch sales will be donated to the Lenape Center. As we are directly inspired by (and profiting from) the natural beauty of this place, the right thing to do is make sure that some of that power and money flows back to the land, and its stewards, the Munsee-Lenape people.
