The Alien Hoedown is coming! The Alien Hoedown is coming!
Hello earthlings,
Have you seen any strange sightings the sky? No, not the eclipse or Northern lights. Long before Starlink, Elon Musk’s trail of satellites that orbit the night sky, trails of colorful lights and other unexplained sightings have been experienced right here in the Hudson Valley.
Rumored to be the UFO capital of the East Coast, Pine Bush in Orange County has been experiencing out-of-this-world encounters since the 1960s with tales of alien sightings, abductions and strange objects in the sky. During the mid-1980s and ‘90s, large crowds would gather nightly along town roads for the chance to spot something extraordinary.
On March 24, 1983, there were over 300 reports of a V-shaped craft with colored lights in the sky spotted throughout the lower Hudson Valley, and later dubbed the Westchester Boomerang. In August of 1984, a Town of New Castle cop reportedly bust into a public hearing at the town hall yelling, “The U.F.O.’s here! The U.F.O.’s here!”
(State Police dispelled rumors saying the sightings were in fact pilots flying Cessna 152s with their colored lights in a tight formation, “flown by pranksters out of Stormville Airport….they’re getting a big kick out of it.” The pilots were found in no violation of the law at the time.)
This weekend, Pine Bush will once again be host to several extra-ordinary sightings like a Cosmic Drum Circle on Thursday, a Space Prom on Friday night, the UFO Fair (featuring the Best in Galaxy Costume Contest, kids and pets invited!), Alien Runway Stroll and Speaker Conference on Saturday, and an Alien Hoedown and Food Fest on Sunday.
