Edie Falco highlights this summer’s season on the (college) stage

Edie Falco will be heading to Marist University in Poughkeepsie this summer. The Emmy Award-winning actress won’t be taking any classes per se, but she will working with her former Emmy Award-winning Nurse Jackie co-star, Merritt Wever, as part of New York Stage and Film’s 40th summer season.

Along with Edie, the New York Stage and Film’s summer season will feature 220 artists – a group that has been recognized by every major award outlets including the Pulitzer Prize, Tony, Obie, Oscar and Emmys – working on productions, readings and residencies for new plays, musicals, dance, film and television projects in various stages of development.

Falco will star as Hamlet’s mother in a reading of Gertrude, written by Carly Mensch and directed by Liz Flahive. Darren Goldstein (Ozark) will join the cast as Claudius, Sunita Mani (Death of a Unicorn) as Bernadette, and Christopher Lowell (Glow) will star as Hamlet.

Powerhouse opens at Vassar in Poughkeepsie

For six weeks, the 39th season of Powerhouse Theater will feature mainstage productions, workshops, free readings, training program for up-and-coming work. The season opens June 20 and runs through July 27, 2025 at the Vassar College campus in Poughkeepsie. Highlights include two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice, School of Rock) and Drew Gasparini (The Karate Kid) with their musical adaptation of Ned Vizzini’s young adult novel It’s Kind of A Funny Story, directed by Sarna Lapine (Call Me Izzy). Rufus Wainwright to rally for local pols

Last week, local politicians announced that crooner Rufus Wainwright will perform at the Stissing Center for the Arts in Pine Plains to benefit the Dutchess County Democratic Committee this summer. The singer-songwriter will take the stage on Friday, August 1, 2025, as part of the Out for Dutchess campaign. Tickets are expected to go on sale this week to subscribers of the Dutchess Dems email list.
