The Polar Plunge fundraising event for the Special Olympics was founded by retired police officer Chris Hamel, who also serves as the committee's chairman in Fishkill. "The event not only raises money to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics New York, but awareness of the organization and the wonderful athletes competing under our banner."

The goal for this year's event is to have 1,000 participants taking the plunge. Those ready to freeze for a reason, can sign-up as an individual, with a team or you may sign-up on the day of the event. To sign-up in advance, please visit: polarplungeny.org/fishkill

To chicken to take the plunge? Raise $100 and you'll still get the official Polar Plunge sweatshirt!
