Camper arrested, ticketed for setting up near creek

While recently on patrol at the Wassaic Multiple Use Area in eastern Dutchess County, Forest Ranger Aubrey Russo from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, noticed two campers illegally set-up within 150 feet of a creek. The campers were also using a motorized vehicle on state land.

While reporting the incident to the dispatch center, Ranger Russo was informed that one of the subjects had two active bench warrants and a revoked license. The subject was also in violation of an active order of protection which prohibited contact with the other camper.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office took the subject into custody.

The second camper moved their camp to another location, away from the creek. They were issued a ticket for illegal camping.
