Newburgh-Beacon Ferry to return for limited service

Pilot weekend to run in coordination with community events cross-river

The Newburgh-Beacon Ferry will be running across the Hudson River again this weekend – but only for a limited run. After 20-plus years of providing service from Beacon to Newburgh, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) discontinued the ferry service last year citing declining ridership and “extensive damage” to the Beacon landing during a winter storm in January 2025. Since then, though, the damaged dock has been removed and volunteers have raised over $30,000 to restart a limited service in coordination with the New York Boat Company to offer cross-river connections to several community events in Beacon and Newburgh beginning this weekend including the third annual Newburgh Porchfest, Archtober Newburgh and the Spirit of Beacon, which was rescheduled from last weekend due to the weather.

Organizers with the Save the Ferry coalition hope the weekend rides will show the need for the service for both commuters and visitors alike. “Through this action, we will demonstrate demand and impact of ferry service to our community, Governor Hochul and the MTA, and we will use what we learn from the pilot in our continued efforts towards permanent service restoration and expansion,” the coalition said in a statement.

Rides for the pilot weekend will take place between 10am and 6pm on October 3 and 4, and October 10 and 11. The ferry will depart from the Sloop Club dock in Beacon and the Riverfront Marina in Newburgh.

Tickets for the special pilot run cost $1 for all ages. Tickets: https://fareharbor.com/embeds/book/trinitycruises/items/393676/calendar/2026/10/
