Office for the Aging partners with AI company for fast scam protection

Scams, from false emails to fishy text messages, seem like they are everywhere – especially if you’re the chair of the Dutchess County Legislature. (See story)

To help residents over 60 quickly determine whether a phone call, text message or email is a scam or not, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging has announced a new partnership with an AI-based company, SilverShield.

SilverShield is programmed to not only determine whether the communication is legitimate or not, but it can also help users report potential scams to authorities, according to representatives. SilverShield plans begin at $5 per month, with financial assistance available to low-income seniors through the New York State Office of the Aging partnership.

To learn more about the SilverShield partnership, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging will be hosting an information session for residents over the age of 60 on March 24, 2026 from 2:30 to 4:30pm at the OFA Poughkeepsie Friendship Center at 114 Delafield Street in Poughkeepsie. Seating is limited; reserve a spot by calling 845-486-2555 during regular business hours.
