“Apples in Winter”

Legends by Candlelight Ghost Encounters - 2021
Fridays and Saturdays, October 22, 23, 29 & 30 • Three encounters will be given each night at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm • Clermont State Historic Site • Teenagers bringing a Ouija Board to a historic site? What could possibly go wrong? In this annual event visitors will meet a horde of “ghosts” from Clermont’s past as they tell their stories of glory, loss, success, and failure. Some ghosts may be scary, some may be funny but all the stories they tell are true! Visitors will be seated on the lawn of Clermont surrounded by the flickering specters of Jack-o’-lanterns; hand carved by the museum’s staff. Visitors for the ghost encounter should bring their own chair or blanket as none will be provided. As the entire event is outside it is suggested to dress for the weather. Glaze Making Workshop
Saturday October 23, 2021 • 3-5pm • $90 • Clay Works, 485 Main Street, Poughkeepsie • This class is a crash course on the ins and outs of making glaze and creating your own custom colors. We’ll cover the basic chemistry of glaze + how it works, how to read a glaze recipe, how to mix and measure dry materials, how to scale recipes up and down for testing and big batches, how to record glaze tests, and lastly (most importantly) how to use mason stains to create an endless rainbow of glaze colors. The first half of the class will consist of lecture and the second half will be hands-on. Students will be provided with a base glaze and have the opportunity to mix up 3 of their own unique colors. Plain white test tiles will be provided but students are encouraged to bring small bisque pieces to dip into their test glazes. Glaze tests are tiny so keep that in mind with the bisque you bring. Friends of Rhinebeck Cemetery Third Annual Living History Cemetery Tours
October 23 and 24, 2021 • 3pm • Enter at the gates at Mill Road, Rhinebeck • Tours begin in the late18th century and end in the early 20th century. Guests will meet George Saltford, a florist who launched the Hudson Valley’s violet industry and Susan Frazier, a teacher who fought for African-American rights. Next on the tour will be Andrew Frazier, a landowner and Susan Frazier’s grandfather. Ten digit dialing begins
Starting Sunday, October 24, those living and working within area codes 845 or 914 will have to dial the area code when they place local calls within those area codes, due to a change required by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC has adopted “988” as a new three-digit number to be used nationwide to reach the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline, necessitating this new shift to 10-digit dialing in the affected area codes. Wireless customers nationwide may dial either 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255) to reach the Lifeline now. Landline customers must continue to dial 1-800-273- TALK (8255) to reach the Lifeline until July 16, 2022. To complete all local calls, you need to dial either the area code + telephone number or 1 + area code + telephone number. This applies to all calls within your area code that are currently dialed with seven digits • all services, automatic dialing equipment, or other types of equipment that are programmed to complete calls to 7-digit local numbers will need to be reprogrammed to complete calls to 10-digit (or 1+10-digit) numbers, including the area code. “Fallen”
Through October 31, 2021 • Opening of a new site-specific installation by nationally-renowned artist Jean Shin • A beloved hemlock on Olana’s East Lawn died last year of natural causes, despite efforts to save it. “Memento Mori Mandalas”

Asymmetrical Handled Baskets

Learn about Native American history, the American Revolution, the discovery of iron within the park, the role the mines played during the Civil War, Odelltown and Dennytown, the last ditch effort to revive iron mining at Fahnestock in the 1890s by Thomas Edison, and the purchase and acquisition of the land as part of the Fahnestock Estate, and lastly the bequeathing of the land by Ernest Fahnestock to Governor Franklin Roosevelt and New York State, to be made into a park memorializing his brother Clarence in perpetuity. Haunted Hamlet and Monster's Ball
Saturday, October 30, 2021 • 3-7pm • Wassaic Project • Instead of floats, this year will feature seven PG-rated art installations/trick-or-treating stations around Maxon Mills and the Luther Barn field, explore an all-encompassing banana invention hut from Paul Belenky, a giant plinko game (with real prizes!) from David Diamond and Pete Vigeant, a mutant forest from Melinda Kiefer and Christopher Santiago, dancing candy spirits from Grace Lang, a Halloween-themed “Let’s Make a Deal” game led by a game show host zombie from Katrina Majkut, a fairytale witches hut from TJ Greenway and Ben Philipp, and a fibrous candy monster from Ana Maria Farina and Hannah Washburn. The Haunted Hamlet event is free for all ages, but RSVP recommended to help with the candy count. At 7pm, The Monster’s Ball will take place over at The Lantern featuring live music (bands TBD!), DJ sets by Taraka, and a costume contest. Weaving as Meditation

During this workshop you will learn basic weaving skills to use as a foundation from which to explore mindfulness through creativity. The workshop will begin with a short guided meditation to cleanse the mind’s palette, followed by weaving instruction. Once you have started your weaving, and are comfortable with the process, you will be free to let go and use your intuition to explore a wide array of colors and textures in the form of yarn and fabric. Long-term traffic alert in Clinton
The bridge at the intersection of Fiddlers Bridge and Long Pond Roads by the West Clinton Fire House (Station 2) will be closed beginning Monday, July 26 for the total replacement of the bridge and buttresses.
