This week's calendar (2/1 -2/7/21)
SNOW!
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect beginning 4am Monday with 12 to 20 inches of snow expected through Tuesday.
As of noon on Monday, Governor Cuomo has declared a State of Emergency in 40 counties including Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties. New Yorkers who must travel should do so with extreme caution and try to get to their destination BEFORE 12 NOON.
Follow the HVNY feed on Twitter for updates as they come in.
As a result of the storm, most municipal offices are closed for the day. And if you had a COVID-19 vaccine appointment at one of the New York State-run PODs at the Westchester County Center, Javits Center, Jones Beacon, Aqueduct Racetrack or SUNY Stony Brook – Monday’s appointments at these NYS-run PODS will be rescheduled for another date later in the week.

Nick Cave’s installation of “Truth Be Told” on the facade of The School in Kinderhook is removed hours before a 3-hour-long public hearing discussing the village code enforcement officer’s ruling that the piece was technically a sign in the historic zoning district, and not covered under the gallery’s current special use permit. The board will meet again on Tuesday. Photo by Larissa Carson.
Special meeting on “Truth”
Tuesday, February 2, 2021 • 7pm • After last week’s 3-hour public hearing, the Village of Kinderhook Zoning Board of Appeals hold their regular meeting and discuss “Truth Be Told,” by Nick Cave, which was installed on the facade of The School building on Broad Street. Alexandra Anderson, former editor for the Village Voice who has lived in Columbia County since the 1970s, stated: “I’m thrilled he’s exhibiting in the village [but] it’s not about censorship, it violated village codes. We have to obey our codes or we lose our historic district.” The artist was not present, and the gallery owner did not comment during the meeting • More info + updates: https://hvny.info/entertainment/truth-be-told • Information for the Kinderhook ZBA meeting on Zoom: LINK

Virtual Public Hearing on NYC’s Management of the Ashokan Reservoir
Thursday, February 4, 2021 • 4-6:30pm • The Department of Environmental Conservation will host a public hearing on the turbidity of the Ashokan Reservoir, including its releases of muddy water into the Lower Esopus Creek. According to the Hudson River environmental group Riverkeeper, “The Esopus Creek is dammed to create the Ashokan Reservoir, one of the most important parts of New York City’s unfiltered drinking water supply, which serves 9 million people in New York City and the Hudson Valley.” When the reservoir gets muddy from storms, that muddy water is released into the Lower Esopus Creek, a Hudson River tributary. “The turbid water severely affects water quality, wildlife habitat, recreation and quality of life throughout several Ulster County communities, and also challenges drinking water treatment for the communities that draw drinking water from the Hudson River,” Riverkeeper adds. • Any person wishing to provide a public statement must register in advance of the hearing no later than 10am on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 • More info: LINK + DEC LINK
