Personal Finances for Veterans
Tuesday, April 12, 2022 • 5:30-7:30pm • Poughkeepsie VFW Post 170, 1 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie •Dutchess County Comptroller Robin Lois has partnered with Hudson River Housing and VetZero to provide local veterans with a free educational series devoted to maintaining financial health, as well as utilizing veteran-specific government services. Part 1 will cover how to balance a personal budget, understanding and raising credit scores, and filing income taxes. Veterans who wish to attend are advised to bring their tax documents, bank statements, and any other questions they might have. Egg Hunts for All

Public Forum on Addiction and Recovery

D'Arcy Simpson Art Works Presents: Seeing through the Gray by Mary Breneman
On display until May 13, 2022 • 12-5PM • D'Arcy Simpson Art Works, 409 Warren Street, Hudson • Mary Breneman debuts a new series of expressionistic landscape and wildlife paintings in “Seeing Through the Gray”, which marks a new direction into abstraction and heightened personal expression. These intimate paintings are inspired by photographs taken on meditative nature walks that are later reinterpreted in the studio. They are at once, representational, abstract and emotionally expressive. Her gestural brush strokes reveal not only the artist’s hand on the canvas, but of her presence at the scene. An opening reception will be held on April 9th from 5 to 8 PM as part of the Hudson Gallery Crawl. Annual Burn Ban
Through May 14 • New York State’s springtime ban on open burning. Open burning is prohibited in NYS, with several exceptions:

  • Camp fires or any other outdoor fires less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length, width or diameter are allowed.

  • Small cooking fires are allowed.

  • Ceremonial or celebratory bonfires are allowed. Disposal of flags or religious items in a small-sized fire is allowed, if it is not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

  • Only charcoal or dry, clean, untreated or unpainted wood can be burned.

  • Fires cannot be left unattended and must be fully extinguished.

In towns with a total population less than 20,000, you may burn tree limbs with attached leaves. The limbs must be less than 6 inches in diameter and 8 feet in length (also referred to as brush). However, this is not allowed from March 16 through May 14 due to the increased risk of wildfires. The 13th Season of ‘Bridge Music’
Through October 31, 2022 • 8am-8pm • Free • Mid Hudson Bridge (Towers), U.S. 44-55, NY, Poughkeepsie/Highland • Bridge Music, Joseph Bertolozzi's musical opus celebrating the iconic Mid Hudson Bridge (and sister project to Tower Music from the Eiffel Tower in Paris) opens its 13th season April 1. Free and open to the public, this sound-art installation is located at each of the bridge's towers, accessed from the Mid Hudson Bridge's pedestrian sidewalks at Johnson-Iorio Park, in Highland. Spotted Lanternfly Informational Workshop

Exploring Ancient Phoenicia - Part 3: Protecting These Sacred Mountains
Wednesday, April 27, 2022 • 7pm • The third in a series of multi-media lectures given via Zoom, Evan Pritchard will share some of his research regarding the high sacred places of Phoenicia and the surrounding Catskills, especially regarding mountains located within Shandaken township. He will again explore local lore and linguistics, and the lore surrounding Panther Mountain and the seven sacred springs which are the source of seven rivers of great importance to the Esopus Munsee of our region including their portages. He will also revisit local trade routes to discuss not only where they lead but what items travelers might have been trading. As before he will integrate his latest research with earlier studies by noted scholars such as Alf Evers, Michael Kudish and Glenn Kreisberg, and files from The Shandaken and Time and the Valleys Museums, offering a smorgasbord of surprises no one will want to miss. • Free and open to everyone. "Maiden Full Circle" with Tracy Edwards MBE, skipper
Wednesday, May 4, 2022 • 6pm • Virtual via Zoom • Tracy Edwards MBE was the skipper of Maiden in 1989-1990, leading the first all-woman crew to race around the world. ​In 2017, Tracy and her team rescued the long-abandoned vessel. Now, they are pursuing a new mission, sailing Maiden in support of education for girls and other underrepresented people throughout the world with "The Maiden Factor Foundation." American Kennel Club Scent Trials at the Museum
May 7-8, 2022 • 10am-5pm • 117 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson • After the tragic events of 9/11, there was a push in this country, due to the increased demand for detection and search and rescue dogs, to increase focus on scent training and breeding programs domestically. Scent work is a sport that helps nurture and develop scent skills in dogs. Breeders can ‘prove’ their line’s ability to do scent work by earning titles. It is a seriously popular and exciting sport for everyone who trains and competes with their dog. It is also super fun to watch! So join us and the event’s sponsor, Albany Obedience Club, as we host American Kennel Club Scent Trials at the Museum. The scent work sport will take place inside and outside of the Museum building, with as many as 80-90 teams competing during the event! Also during this event, there will be a canine-inspired Scavenger Hunt in the Museum for kids. Free admission will be offered during the first day of the event (May 7th, Saturday) from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Museum general admission resumes on day two of the event (May 8th, Sunday).
