A Love Supreme: Celebrating the Legacy of Alice & John Coltrane,
Tuesday, September 14, 2021 • Hudson Hall • A concert series honoring the enduring vision of two artists whose work, love, and influence symbolize artistic achievement and Black excellence. Curated by Cat Henry, a veteran arts producer who joined the Hudson Jazz Festival after stepping down from a leadership role with Jazz at Lincoln Center, the series was originally programmed as part of the 2021 Hudson Jazz Festival: Special Edition, which was postponed due to the pandemic. Kicking off on September 14 with a free talk about the Coltranes by GRAMMY award-winning music historian and author Ashley Kahn, the series features three distinct performances by artists at the forefront of the contemporary jazz scene: Brandee Younger Trio (September 18), Orrin Evans Trio(October 16) and JD Allen Trio (November 20). • All ticket holders will be required to wear masks and provide proof of vaccination to attend. To ensure access, all three concerts will be live streamed free from Hudson Hall’s grand performance hall (reservations required). Third Thursdays at the Beatrix Farrand Garden, movie night!

Beginning at 7pm enjoy a screening of A Man Named Pearl, a documentary film about an incredible self-taught topiary artist who as a Black man in a white town in South Carolina inspires and connects his community in untold ways. At 8:30pm a special screening of Beatrix Farrand’s American Landscapes follows. This documentary might be familiar to many from its showing on PBS in 2020 or its screenings at the Millerton Moviehouse. Learn about the fascinating life of the foremost female American landscape architect Beatrix Farrand as told by the film’s host Lynden B. Miller. Wildfire in the Western US: Causes, Consequences, & Adaptation
September 16, 2021 • 7pm • Virtual event • Join Cary President Joshua Ginsberg for a virtual Cary Science Conversation on the causes and social-ecological consequences of increased wildfire in the western US. A panel of experts will discuss why wildfires are on the rise, the role of climate change, the predicted fate of future forests, and ways that at-risk communities can adapt. Panelists will also discuss the importance of tailoring fire and forest management to the local context, considering regionally specific factors like forest type, environmental conditions, and the presence of people. Panelists will include: forest ecologist Winslow Hansen (Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies), fire ecologist Phil Higuera (University of Montana), and natural resource sociologist Catrin Edgeley (Northern Arizona University). Similar to the Artist Tour held in May, participants simply sign up and are placed on a map that will be sold at the Morton Library as a fundraiser for the Rhinebeck Grange. “Fallen”

Olana Plein Air Festival

History of Enslavement and Anti-Slavery in Dutchess County

This hybrid event will take place both in-person at the Elmendorph Inn and on Zoom. Mr. Bunten’s talk will examine the history of slavery and antislavery in Dutchess County, focusing on the key players and events that are part of that history.
Peter Bunten is chairman of the Mid-Hudson Antislavery History Project, located in Dutchess County, and is the current Vice President of the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State. He is a Trustee of the Dutchess County Historical Society and is affiliated with Celebrating the African Spirit in Poughkeepsie. Before his retirement in 2018, Mr. Bunten was the Education Manager for Historic Hudson Valley. He has a Master’s degree in Historical Studies, with an emphasis on Public History, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Coping with Life’s Necessaries: Colonial Hygiene Practices
September 30, 2021 • 7pm • Free • Virtual Lecture with the Schuyler Mansion, hosted by the Putnam History Museum • The Schuyler family enjoyed many luxuries as part of their refined lifestyle, but what might their hygiene practices have looked like? How did their practices differ from or align with those of their neighbors in 18th century Albany? Learn more about the changing practices of this aristocratic, colonial family with Schuyler Mansion’s “Coping with Life’s Necessaries” program! Presenter Ian Mumpton is the Historic Site Assistant at Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site. His work focuses on highlighting historically excluded narratives as essential parts of the site’s history, including the stories of Loyalists, Native Americans, women, tenant farmers, and enslaved people of African descent. He is also currently researching the martial arts and martial identity of colonial New Netherland. Dutchess County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal & Electronics Recycling Event

Winnakee Land Trust’s 14th Annual Tour of Historic Barns and Working Farms
Saturday, October 2, 2021 • Tour begins at 11am, all barns close at 4pm • Towns of Red Hook, Rhinebeck and Milan • A mapped brochure outlines the self-guided, outdoor tour. Docents will be on-hand outside each barn. Walktoberfest
October 2-3, 2021 • noon - 5 pm • $25 tasting ticket, free general admission • Walkway Over the Hudson - Ulster Welcome Center Plaza, 87 Haviland Road, Highland • The Walktoberfest Farmers and Makers Market brings a curated selection of the Hudson Valley’s finest producers – farms, distilleries, breweries, wineries, restaurants, artists, artisans, and more – to the Hudson Valley Rail Trail and west approach to Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park. Vendors will exhibit their wares for tasting or purchase, allowing participants to support several local agribusinesses in one location. With more than 160 vendors located throughout the Hudson Valley Rail Trail and the Walkway’s Ulster Welcome Center Plaza, Walktoberfest features not only farm-fresh products, food from local restaurants, and beer, wine, and spirits samples in a designated tasting area, but also art installations, locally made goods, a special area for children’s activities, and more. All proceeds from Walktoberfest benefit the Friends of the Walkway and Hudson Valley Rail Trail, who have partnered to present this farmers market.
• Tasting tickets are available now for $25 and include full access to wine, beer, spirits, and cider samples from more than 20 area purveyors. While hunting, hear the stories of the graveyards’ residents in our self-guided walking tours. Historic Red Hook will kick-off the month in-person on October 9 at 3pm at the Elmendorph Green with the dedication of a new historic marker in the Cherry Street Methodist Cemetery, followed by a concert at 4pm from the bluegrass band Grass Fed and local fall treats. An Environmental History of Native Land Use in the Colonial Hudson Valley

Haunted Hamlet and Monster's Ball
October 30, 2021 • 3-7pm • Wassaic Project • Instead of floats, this year will feature seven PG-rated art installations/trick-or-treating stations around Maxon Mills and the Luther Barn field, explore an all-encompassing banana invention hut from Paul Belenky, a giant plinko game (with real prizes!) from David Diamond and Pete Vigeant, a mutant forest from Melinda Kiefer and Christopher Santiago, dancing candy spirits from Grace Lang, a Halloween-themed “Let’s Make a Deal” game led by a game show host zombie from Katrina Majkut, a fairytale witches hut from TJ Greenway and Ben Philipp, and a fibrous candy monster from Ana Maria Farina and Hannah Washburn. The Haunted Hamlet event is free for all ages, but RSVP recommended to help with the candy count. At 7pm, The Monster’s Ball will take place over at The Lantern featuring live music (bands TBD!), DJ sets by Taraka, and a costume contest. Please note that Monster’s Ball tickets ($20) must be purchased in advance and that all attendees must wear a costume. Long-term traffic alert in Clinton
The bridge at the intersection of Fiddlers Bridge and Long Pond Roads by the West Clinton Fire House (Station 2) will be closed beginning Monday, July 26 for the total replacement of the bridge and buttresses.
