Putnam History Museum’s Fall Guided History Hike Series

Olana Plein Air Festival
Saturday, September 25, 2021 • Olana State Historic Site, Hudson • During this day-long festival open to participants of all skill levels, participants are invited to bring their own supplies and materials to paint throughout Olana’s landscape. General admission to the festival provides each registrant with a plein air painting map, a gift bag (while supplies last) and early access to set up their easels overlooking Olana’s famous views. To make this one-day festival accessible to the widest possible audience, general registration is $25 (free for students under 16 with an adult) and workshops are offered at $45. Rhinebeck Porchfest in the Park – CANCELLED
According to organizers: Porchfest in the Park has been canceled for 2021. The planning committee decided that this would be the most responsible thing to do for the community given the rise in COVID cases in our area. The health and welfare of our community should take precedence over our initiatives to improve our park by putting on this event. We are confident that we will have music back on our Rhinebeck porches in 2022! Art Exhibition: Will McLeod “Perimeter Cameos”
Through October 4, 2021 • Window On Hudson, 43 South 3rd Street, Hudson • Window On Hudson is proud to present to present Will McLeod and his vibrant fabric paintings in “Perimeter Cameos” that will fill the storefront windows, with additional sewn compositions and works on paper exhibited indoors. The Cameo (the elliptical centerpiece of the composition) was created as the initial target, the lure, of the whole piece. ”Cross Pollination” Exhibition

“Fallen”
Through October 31, 2021 • Opening of a new site-specific installation by nationally-renowned artist Jean Shin • A beloved hemlock on Olana’s East Lawn died last year of natural causes, despite efforts to save it. “Memento Mori Mandalas”
Through October 31, 2021 • Olana State Historic Site, Hudson • Evoking the transitory Buddhist spiritual practice of mandala making, Catskill-based artist Portia Munson reflects on the passing beauty of earthly things and the costs of climate change with arrangements that center on fallen birds and insects she finds on her walks around our region. Second Saturday Hudson Gallery Crawl

History of Enslavement and Anti-Slavery in Dutchess County
September 29, 2021 • 7pm •  Free • Virtual and in-person at 7562 N. Broadway, Red Hook • Join Historic Red Hook for this free presentation from Peter Bunten. This hybrid event will take place both in-person at the Elmendorph Inn and on Zoom. Mr. Bunten’s talk will examine the history of slavery and antislavery in Dutchess County, focusing on the key players and events that are part of that history.
Peter Bunten is chairman of the Mid-Hudson Antislavery History Project, located in Dutchess County, and is the current Vice President of the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State. He is a Trustee of the Dutchess County Historical Society and is affiliated with Celebrating the African Spirit in Poughkeepsie. Before his retirement in 2018, Mr. Bunten was the Education Manager for Historic Hudson Valley. He has a Master’s degree in Historical Studies, with an emphasis on Public History, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Coping with Life’s Necessaries: Colonial Hygiene Practices

How did their practices differ from or align with those of their neighbors in 18th century Albany? Learn more about the changing practices of this aristocratic, colonial family with Schuyler Mansion’s “Coping with Life’s Necessaries” program! Presenter Ian Mumpton is the Historic Site Assistant at Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site. His work focuses on highlighting historically excluded narratives as essential parts of the site’s history, including the stories of Loyalists, Native Americans, women, tenant farmers, and enslaved people of African descent. He is also currently researching the martial arts and martial identity of colonial New Netherland. Cemetery Crawl Kick Off

Join Historic Red Hook for a month-long cemetery crawl through the many hauntingly beautiful graveyards that cover the villages and countryside. Participants can compete for prizes by taking part in our scavenger hunt across five historically significant Red Hook graveyards. While hunting, hear the stories of the graveyards’ residents in our self-guided walking tours. Historic Red Hook will kick-off the month in-person on October 9 at 3pm at the Elmendorph Green with the dedication of a new historic marker in the Cherry Street Methodist Cemetery, followed by a concert at 4pm from the bluegrass band Grass Fed and local fall treats. Orrin Evans Trio
Thursday, October 16, 2021 • Hudson Hall • A concert series honoring the enduring vision of two artists whose work, love, and influence symbolize artistic achievement and Black excellence. Curated by Cat Henry, a veteran arts producer who joined the Hudson Jazz Festival after stepping down from a leadership role with Jazz at Lincoln Center, the series was originally programmed as part of the 2021 Hudson Jazz Festival: Special Edition, which was postponed due to the pandemic. The series features performances by artists at the forefront of the contemporary jazz scene: Orrin Evans Trio(October 16) and JD Allen Trio (November 20). • All ticket holders will be required to wear masks and provide proof of vaccination to attend. To ensure access, all three concerts will be live streamed free from Hudson Hall’s grand performance hall (reservations required). Cemetery Crawl Closing Award Ceremony

Haunted Hamlet and Monster's Ball
October 30, 2021 • 3-7pm • Wassaic Project • Instead of floats, this year will feature seven PG-rated art installations/trick-or-treating stations around Maxon Mills and the Luther Barn field, explore an all-encompassing banana invention hut from Paul Belenky, a giant plinko game (with real prizes!) from David Diamond and Pete Vigeant, a mutant forest from Melinda Kiefer and Christopher Santiago, dancing candy spirits from Grace Lang, a Halloween-themed “Let’s Make a Deal” game led by a game show host zombie from Katrina Majkut, a fairytale witches hut from TJ Greenway and Ben Philipp, and a fibrous candy monster from Ana Maria Farina and Hannah Washburn. The Haunted Hamlet event is free for all ages, but RSVP recommended to help with the candy count. At 7pm, The Monster’s Ball will take place over at The Lantern featuring live music (bands TBD!), DJ sets by Taraka, and a costume contest. Please note that Monster’s Ball tickets ($20) must be purchased in advance and that all attendees must wear a costume. Long-term traffic alert in Clinton
The bridge at the intersection of Fiddlers Bridge and Long Pond Roads by the West Clinton Fire House (Station 2) will be closed beginning Monday, July 26 for the total replacement of the bridge and buttresses.
