Local connected to Best Picture winner

“Everything Everywhere All At Once” won big at the Oscars Sunday night, and one Hudson Valley resident was there for it all: Hudson Valley resident and Vassar alumni Jon Read was the co-producer and production supervisor of the film.

The film took home seven of the 11 categories been nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh), Best Supporting Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis and also Stephanie Hsu), Best Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan), Best Director (Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert), Best Original Screenplay Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert), Best Costume Design (Shirley Kurata), Best Film Editing (Paul Rogers), Best Original Score (Son Lux), and Best Original Song (Music by Ryan Lott, David Byrne and Mitski; Lyric by Ryan Lott and David Byrne).

According to the Hudson Valley Film Commission: In 2010, as a recent graduate from Vassar, Read got one of his first film gigs as a production assistant on the movie “Francine,” starring Melissa Leo. The film premiered to rave reviews at the Berlin Film Festival. Afterwards, Read worked as a 2nd Assistant Director on the short film “Persephone,” which was co-produced by Greg Meola and directed by Laurent Rejto.

Read’s rise from production assistant followed quickly, and has included at least 5 films that he has produced or coordinated in the Hudson Valley through Savage Rose Films, which he runs with producing partners  Allison Rose Carter. The films include A VIGILANTE, DIANE, THE MOUNTAIN, SHIRLEY, and THE ADULTS, which just premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.

”It's always great to see good people succeed,“ Rejto said. “We've always supported Jon's affects and we'll be rooting for him at the Oscars and on all his future projects.”
