"Year of the Veteran" Parade
Sunday, September 30, 2018
Begins at noon on Market Street, Poughkeepsie

In 1919, the Assistant Secretary of the Navy at the time, Franklin D. Roosevelt, led a parade along Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie where thousands of residents welcomed soldiers returning home at the end of World War I.

Now, almost one hundred years later, Dutchess County continues the tradition of honoring the brave men and women who have served our nation with a “Year of the Veteran” Parade on Sunday, September 30, 2018.

The parade will start on Market Street in Poughkeepsie at 1 p.m. before heading north onto Main Street and concluding at Waryas Park,  where a special recognition for Gold Star Families will be held.

Veterans or veterans groups wishing to take part in the parade can contact the Dutchess County Division of Veterans’ Services at (845) 486-2060.

Since Dutchess County was founded centuries ago, valiant men and women have selflessly taken up arms to protect our nation, and our ‘Year of the Veteran’ Parade will offer county residents the opportunity to recognize their neighbors’ sacrifices.
