Call for artists to re-imagine Route 9 underpass in Poughkeepsie
CALLING ALL ARTISTS: “What do you envision?” on the Route 9 underpass on Main Street in Poughkeepsie? Submit your proposal by March 15, 2018 at midnight!
The Poughkeepsie Gateway Project, a partnership between Arts Mid-Hudson, Poughkeepsie Alliance and O+, invites artists for a commissioned art intervention at the Route 9 Underpass on Main Street in Poughkeepsie.
The chosen submission will be given $8,000 total upon completion of the project between July 24 and August 4, 2018. The decision will be made by a jury of organizational representatives and community members who will select their top five submissions for community input. Final decision will be announced in May 2018.
The proposed mural area will include two aprons directly under Route 9 on each side and a total of 12 columns (six on each side of Main Street). The pillars are roughly 16.5 feet high and 2 ft 1.5 in wide on each side.
Five preliminary designs will be selected by a panel of jurors comprised of the Poughkeepsie Arts Commission, Poughkeepsie Alliance, O+ mural committee, business owners, and community members to present at a public meeting – artists are strongly encouraged to attend the public meeting to hear feedback on designs and work towards presenting their final proposal.
