Meet the Maker:

Name: Allison Walker

What county do you live in?: Dutchess

Tell us about yourself + your work: Allison Walker Gaughan is a printmaking artist. Her work pulls from stories and myths across cultures to focus on the questions that unite humanity (the answers often separate us).

Raised in an orthodox home, Walker’s formative imaginations burned bright with high stakes mortal drama and the language of prophecy. This is heavily reflected in her work.

The many places Walker has worked and lived directly inform her art. This includes eight years in the museum world, two years as a lighthouse keeper on Martha’s Vineyard, and three years as a branding and copywriting consultant in New York City. Walker was raised in the California Bay Area and returns often.

She has a Master’s in Theology, Imagination, and the Arts from the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

Walker currently resides in the New York Hudson Valley with her husband John - the love of her life - and her 700 pound printing press.

How long have you been living/working in the Hudson Valley?: 1.5 years!

Where or what are your favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley?: Walk every inch of every town, eat everywhere, see every art event, be in the Beacon Sloop Club, join cooking clubs, and go to events at the Howland Center in Beacon!

Describe your work: I make one off, original artworks on my 700 pound printing press in my third floor apartment on Beacon main street! It's a hoot & people are welcome in for "studio tours" by appointment. I have my work featured on products on my website as well, such as tees, sweatshirts, journals, cards, posters, mugs, and hats. My art is about big ideas stories and myths that connect us.
