Meet the maker:

Name:  Larissa Carson

What county do you live in? Dutchess

Tell us about you and your work: I grew up in a family of makers. We’ve been making things for as long as I can remember. Woodworking and fiber arts were the most prevalent in my childhood. We used black walnuts, Staghorn sumac and jewel weed to make natural dyes for wool. We collected Hudson River beach glass and drift wood. We searched for arrowheads, feathers, old glass bottles and the remnants of hatched bird eggs. I spent hours in the woods with a fannypack full of pocket knives carving walking sticks. I learned early how rich the outside world was and how many secrets it held. I’m inspired to work with those natural objects, wood, eggs, eggshells, bone and antler pieces. I’m always seeking to recreate the magic I felt discovering some forgotten treasure deep in the woods.

How long have you been living/working in the Hudson Valley?: My whole life and perhaps one or two before that.

Where or what are your favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley?: Explore. Food, woods, parks, my backyard, a new side road, there is always something new to discover even in the places we always are.
