Meet the Maker:
Name: Philippe Halaburda
What county do you live in?: Orange
Tell us about yourself: I’m Philippe Halaburda, a French-born abstract artist based in Newburgh, NY. My work explores the emotional and psychological layers of urban and natural environments through the lens of psychogeography. Using acrylics, tape, yarn, and found materials, I create textured, abstract maps that reveal hidden connections between people, places, and memories. My practice blends bold color, geometric forms, and tactile elements to transform invisible networks into visual landscapes.
What year did you start living/working in the Hudson Valley?: 2020
What are some of your favorite things to do in the region?: Some of my favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley include exploring local art galleries and studios, hiking the scenic trails around Storm King and Minnewaska, visiting farmers’ markets for fresh produce, and discovering hidden cafés and antique shops in small towns. I also enjoy cycling along the Hudson River and taking in the region’s incredible seasonal colors.
