  • “Balanced Growth: Saugerties,” a public forum on the proposed Winston Farm development plan that includes mixed-use housing and a boutique hotel will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Orpheum Theatre in Saugerties from 6:45pm - 8:15pm.

    Saugerties Farm, LLC is proposing to transform the 840-acre property known as the Winston Farm in Saugerties into a “premier regional mixed-use destination” featuring a mix of single-family homes, townhouses and “condos or apartment units,” 250,00-square-feet of retail space, a 150-room boutique hotel, a conference center, an enclosed performance venue, a 250,00-square-foot light industrial space and a 100-cabin campground.     Town of Saugerties Supervisor Fred Costello and Adriana Beltrani, Senior Environmental Planner, will lead the forum and give a brief history of the Winston Farm development plans including the path to the current situation, and a zoning and environmental review. Q&A from the audience will follow. This event is free. First come, first served. No RSVP necessary. Questions are encouraged.

  • Public hearing on Good Cause Eviction law planned in New Paltz: A public hearing will be held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of New Paltz on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 7pm at New Paltz Village Hall, 25 Plattekill Avenue, New Paltz, New York regarding the adoption of a local law that would amend Village Code Chapter 129 Housing Standards Section 30-32 to include the Good Cause Eviction provision set forth by Article 6-A of the Real Property Law of the State of New York.

    The Good Cause Eviction law establishes a “local rent standard,” which is the amount of rent increase considered reasonable in a given year based on inflation in the local area. In July, Poughkeepsie joined Kingston and Albany as other cities where good cause eviction laws have been passed.

    “Any resident of the Village of New Paltz is entitled to be heard upon said proposed Local Law at such public hearing.” Copies of said proposed Local Law are available for review at New Paltz Village Hall, 25 Plattekill Avenue.

  • The Hudson Valley Renegades are headed to the South Atlantic League Playoffs! On Tuesday, September 10, the Renegades will take on the Greensboro Grasshoppers in Game 1 of the North Division Series. First Pitch is set for 6:35pm. Tickets

  • Dietz Stadium to expected to open to the public and Kingston City School District student-athletes by Saturday, September 14, according to City of Kingston Mayor Steve Noble. The $20 million improvement project to renovate and modernize the stadium complex with upgrades to the “scoreboard, bleachers, water fountains, fencing and gates, sound and Wi-Fi systems, lighting, bike racks, locker rooms, bathrooms, food vending, signage, parking and more.” Interior construction is expected to be completed by the end of October. https://engagekingston.com/dietz-stadium-improvements

  • Submissions for Freedom artwork wanted: The City of Kingston will be accepting artwork submissions for an exhibition at City Hall entitled, FREEDOM. The concept of the exhibition was developed as a part of the major installation of sculptor Trina Greene’s Sojourner Truth: First Step to Freedom statue, which will be on display in City Hall from September 28, 2024 through August 2025. For the FREEDOM exhibition, artists are invited to submit work that celebrates and visually represents Sojourner Truth’s legacy as a champion for freedom, justice, and women’s rights.

    Selected works will be displayed in the ground floor gallery space at City Hall from December 2024 to August 2025. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024. 

     Artists are invited to submit an artwork in response to the theme FREEDOM via the online application or to the Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs, 420 Broadway, Kingston, NY, 12401 by October 25, 2024 at 4:30pm. Works will be selected by a review panel comprised of members of the Kingston Arts Commission and the Kingston arts community.
