Dutchess to discuss extending gas tax cap

‘This money belongs to hardworking Dutchess County residents’

The Dutchess County Legislative Board will meet this week to discuss extending the cap on the county’s tax on gasoline and highway diesel fuel sales.

The current gas tax cap – which keeps the county’s sales tax on gasoline and diesel at $3 per galllon – will expire in December.

“Our job as legislators is to find every opportunity to make life more affordable for our constituents, capping the gas sales tax does this. This money belongs to hardworking Dutchess County residents,” said Dutchess County Legislator Emma Arnoff.

Legislators will meet on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 to discuss the resolution. If adopted, the resolution will take effect December 1, 2026, when the current gas tax cap expires, pending approval from the state.
