Operation Prom offers free dresses, tuxes to local students

"Prom night should be a joyful and exciting experience for every child in Westchester,” County Executive George Latimer said. “No child should have to stay home because they can't afford an outfit ... It's stressful enough asking out a prom date or making sure you have your dance moves together without having to worry about whether or not you can afford a tux or a nice dress."

While prom season is upon us, prom costs can make it hard or even impossible for many students to participate this “annual rite of passage” with their peers. That’s why this weekend, Westchester County and Prom 914 of the Operation Prom Network, will host the 20th annual Prom Dress and Tuxedo Giveaway offering students free and low-cost garb, and free Bee-Line bus trips to the County Center for all students participating in Operation Prom. (Students will just need to show their school IDs and mention Operation Prom to bus drivers.)

The three-day event takes place at the Westchester County Center in White Plains from Friday, April 26 - Sunday, April 28, and provides “high-quality, high-style” free and low-cost prom dresses and tuxedos to high school students in Westchester County.

Friday, April 26, 1-5 p.m.: Free dresses and tuxedos for high school seniors with valid school ID or transcript. Reservations required. Reservations can be booked online at https://forms.gle/XapMtfDed4WXDJaZ8
Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.: Free dresses and tuxedos for high school seniors with valid school ID or transcript. No reservation required.
Sunday, April 28th 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – Open to all students and the general public. *Dresses only, $10 donation per dress. Tuxedos/suits will not be available.

"Prom expenses can be hundreds of dollars, a cost that is unaffordable for many Westchester families,” Department of Social Services Commissioner Leonard Townes said. “Seeing the kids putting on these high quality outfits, and the boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence is really uplifting. I want to thank Noel and Operation Prom for bringing this experience within reach for an entire generation of students in Westchester."
