Spring ends with 'dangerous' heat wave
The spring of 2024 will end with several days of stifling humidity and potentially record-breaking heat this week.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for all of eastern New York from noon on Tuesday through at least 8pm on Thursday. Evening temperatures will also remain in the lower- to mid-70s during this time, offering little relief overnight.
“The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will lead to dangerous heat index values ranging from 95 to 104-degrees,” according to Dutchess County officials.
As a result of this heat, the Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for portions of the state.
Be prepared for the heat:
Slow down, take plenty of breaks and limit time outdoors, if possible
Stay hydrated
Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
Check on the elderly and those with special needs
