84-year-old kills woman at Port Jervis assisted living facility
On December 13, at approximately 11:39pm, police responded to a report of an assault that had occurred at The Sentinel of Port Jervis, an assisted living facility.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim, Patricia Winters, age 62 of Port Jervis, “obviously deceased with a stab wound” in a bedroom of the facility, according to New York State Troopers.
The suspect, James Annear, age 84 of Port Jervis, was also in the bedroom, “suffering from apparent self-inflicted stab wounds,” police said. He was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. Annear is currently in the custody of the New York State Police and will be charged with murder in the second ddegree, a felony and arraigned “when his medical condition permits.”
While the investigation remains ongoing, preliminary reports has determined that Annear and Winters were involved in a verbal confrontation that turned physical prior to the incident.
