On March 30, Village of Rhinebeck Mayor Gary Bassett announced that his wife, Brenda, had tested positive for COVID-19. On April 3, the mayor announced that the village will host a “Healthcare Salute Parade” on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

Beginning at 2:30pm, cars will “queue up on Old Post Road so as not to block traffic” and drive “bumper to bumper through the hospital parking lot with passengers holding up signs.”

According to a press release from the village, “people are to remain in their cars the whole time,” the caravan “cannot block the emergency room entrance, so will not be wrapping all the way around the hospital,” and “refrain from honking” so as to not disturb patients receiving care.
