Public Hearing on Central Hudson’s Billing Practices
Tuesday, May 3, 2022 • 6pm • Kingston High School, 403 Broadway • Forum in partnership with Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, NYS Senator Michelle Hinchey, and Assemblymember Kevin Cahill, to collect testimony from community members. All of the comments we collect will be provided to DPS as a part of their investigation into the billing practices of Central Hudson. If you would like to speak at our hearing, please sign up in advance: here. Speakers will be allotted 2 minutes each to deliver their testimony. If you are unable to attend our public hearing, but would like to submit your comments directly to DPS, you can do so: here

"Maiden Full Circle" with Tracy Edwards MBE, skipper
Wednesday, May 4, 2022 • 6pm • Virtual via Zoom • Tracy Edwards MBE was the skipper of Maiden in 1989-1990, leading the first all-woman crew to race around the world. ​In 2017, Tracy and her team rescued the long-abandoned vessel. Now, they are pursuing a new mission, sailing Maiden in support of education for girls and other underrepresented people throughout the world with "The Maiden Factor Foundation." The Tick Project in Focus

Explore results from The Tick Project, a six-year study that was the first to test if environmentally-safe interventions could reduce ticks and the diseases they carry at the neighborhood level. An Evening with Josh Ritter

Emerging in 2000 with his eponymous debut album, Ritter hit his stride in 2007 with the release of The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, which introduced elements of rock, country, and blues into the mix. 11th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep

Volunteers will meet at Rhinecliff Dock: Rhinecliff Amtrak Station: 455 Rhinecliff Road, Rhinecliff NY 12574. Walking is suggested, there is parking along the ramp. They ask all Sweep volunteers to also bring a hat, sunscreen, a full reusable water bottle, and a face mask, work gloves and hand sanitizer.  This site is suitable for elementary-aged children with adult supervision.  Questions? American Kennel Club Scent Trials at the Museum
May 7-8, 2022 • 10am-5pm • 117 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson • After the tragic events of 9/11, there was a push in this country, due to the increased demand for detection and search and rescue dogs, to increase focus on scent training and breeding programs domestically. Scent work is a sport that helps nurture and develop scent skills in dogs. Breeders can ‘prove’ their line’s ability to do scent work by earning titles. It is a seriously popular and exciting sport for everyone who trains and competes with their dog. It is also super fun to watch! So join us and the event’s sponsor, Albany Obedience Club, as we host American Kennel Club Scent Trials at the Museum. The scent work sport will take place inside and outside of the Museum building, with as many as 80-90 teams competing during the event! Also during this event, there will be a canine-inspired Scavenger Hunt in the Museum for kids. D'Arcy Simpson Art Works Presents: Seeing through the Gray by Mary Breneman
On display until May 13, 2022 • noon-5pm • D'Arcy Simpson Art Works, 409 Warren Street, Hudson • Mary Breneman debuts a new series of expressionistic landscape and wildlife paintings in “Seeing Through the Gray”, which marks a new direction into abstraction and heightened personal expression. These intimate paintings are inspired by photographs taken on meditative nature walks that are later reinterpreted in the studio. They are at once, representational, abstract and emotionally expressive. Her gestural brush strokes reveal not only the artist’s hand on the canvas, but of her presence at the scene. An opening reception will be held on April 9th from 5 to 8 PM as part of the Hudson Gallery Crawl. Annual Burn Ban
Through May 14 • New York State’s springtime ban on open burning. Open burning is prohibited in NYS, with several exceptions:

  • Camp fires or any other outdoor fires less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length, width or diameter are allowed.

  • Small cooking fires are allowed.

  • Ceremonial or celebratory bonfires are allowed. Disposal of flags or religious items in a small-sized fire is allowed, if it is not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

  • Only charcoal or dry, clean, untreated or unpainted wood can be burned.

  • Fires cannot be left unattended and must be fully extinguished.

In towns with a total population less than 20,000, you may burn tree limbs with attached leaves. The limbs must be less than 6 inches in diameter and 8 feet in length (also referred to as brush). However, this is not allowed from March 16 through May 14 due to the increased risk of wildfires. Burning loose leaves or leaf piles is illegal. • More info: LINK

The 13th Season of ‘Bridge Music’
Through October 31, 2022 • 8am-8pm • Free • Mid Hudson Bridge (Towers), U.S. 44-55, NY, Poughkeepsie/Highland • Bridge Music, Joseph Bertolozzi's musical opus celebrating the iconic Mid Hudson Bridge (and sister project to Tower Music from the Eiffel Tower in Paris) opens its 13th season April 1. Free and open to the public, this sound-art installation is located at each of the bridge's towers, accessed from the Mid Hudson Bridge's pedestrian sidewalks at Johnson-Iorio Park, in Highland. The First Annual Mushroom Festival
