Catskill Public Theater unveils “Terror”
July 16-18 and July 24-25, 2024
Cost: Free
Roscoe’s Fireman’s Field
"Terror," written by the acclaimed Ferdinand Von Schirach and directed by the esteemed Leon J. Van Dyke, unfolds within the high-stakes environment of a military tribunal. The play scrutinizes the actions of a USAF Fighter pilot who makes the harrowing decision to shoot down a commercial airliner, carrying 170 passengers, to prevent a terrorist attack reminiscent of 9/11 on a packed sports stadium. The question posed to the audience is as compelling as it is haunting: Is the pilot a murderer, or is he a disciplined, professional warrior acting in the defense of his country? In a unique and highly theatrical twist, the audience is entrusted with the role of the jury. During intermission, audience members will cast their votes to determine the pilot’s innocence or guilt. This decision directly influences the course of the performance, with two distinct second acts prepared to reflect the verdict of the audience jurors. Hybrid Lecture: Hudson River School of Art and its Ice Age Origins
Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 7 to 8:15pm
Cost: $10
Putnam History Museum, 63 Chestnut St, Cold Spring, NY 10516, United States
Join the Putnam History Museum and authors Johann and Robert Titus in-person or streamed live online for a talk on how the Hudson River School of Art was inspired by landscapes formed by ancient glaciers. During the 19th century there was something of a cultural Renaissance here in the Hudson Valley region. America’s first world-class literature appeared. It also saw the birth of American landscape architecture. Most importantly, led by Thomas Cole, it saw the appearance of the Hudson River School of Art. In short, the region became the center of a truly important cultural movement. None of this, Johanna and Robert Titus argue, would ever have happened if the Hudson Valley, especially the North Lake area, had not been so heavily glaciated. They will take you on a journey to see how the North Lake glaciers created the landscapes that so inspired the great artists of those times. putnamhistorymuseum.org/events/hybrid-lecture-hudson-river-school-of-art-and-its-ice-age-origins/
