Larger-than-life sturgeons to migrate upriver
Atlantic Sturgeon can get large. Like, really large – 14-feet-long kinda large. And every year they travel quietly under the waters of the Hudson River as part of their seasonal migration, unbeknownst to most of us on land.
But that integral and massive migration will be entirely visible this weekend, led by a massive, larger-than-life artist-designed Atlantic Sturgeon boat.
The Riverkeeper Fish Migration Celebration, taking place on Saturday, June 20, will entail a flotilla of migrating fish-designed boats traveling up the Hudson River this weekend, tracing the fin-prints of our most pre-historic residents.
The flotilla will begin its voyage from the Riverkeeper Fish Migration Celebration at the Yonkers Riverfront Summer Kickoff Festival at Habirshaw Park in Yonkers on June 20 at 12:30pm and make its way upriver, tracing the route of the seasonal migration, before arriving for the Welcoming of the Fish at Newburgh’s Unico Park from 5 to 8pm.
The boats will be visible from many popular riverfront parks and promenades along the eastern shore, including:
Hastings-on-Hudson (approx. 12:55 - 1:15 pm)
Dobbs Ferry (approx. 1:10 - 1:30 pm)
Irvington (approx. 1:25 - 1:45 pm)
Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow (approx. 1:50 - 2:10 pm)
Peekskill (approx. 4:05 - 4:25 pm)
Cold Spring (approx. 5:40 - 6:00 pm)
Beacon (approx. 6:35 - 6:55 pm)
