  • Flowers becomes first African American to lead Poughkeepsie – Common Council member Yvonne Flowers made history last Tuesday after she was elected as the first Black Mayor of the City of Poughkeepsie. “[I] want to clarify that I am not the first woman Mayor. There were three amazing women who served in the Mayor position before me,” Flowers said after the election. “What excites me the most about this win, is seeing this city unite in the way that it did. No matter which neighborhood I was walking through to campaign, I felt welcomed and met some amazing people who shared the same passion to make Poughkeepsie better.”


  • Love Bites, a cafe in Saugerties, will be featured on Kitchen Nightmares – Renowned chef Gordon Ramsay was in town in June of 2023 to help this cozy Partition Street eatery run by childhood sweethearts separate their personal lives from their professional ones. “This business has destroyed our relationship,” Tess says in a teaser of the episode. The episode will air on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 8pm on FOX + Hulu. (Spoiler: In July, the couple announced they would be “transferring ownership in the near future” and Google results say: Permanently closed.)


  • Actor Jason Momoa jumped on stage in Woodstock over the weekend and “gave an impassioned speech about the non-sustainableness of the music industry at the end of The Bobby Lees blazing set at The Colony,” according to Amanda Palmer, fellow musician and outspoken critic against music streaming companies. “The system is broken,” Momoa said after the show from the Woodstock-based band on Sunday night.


  • Road closures scheduled in Rhinebeck – Due to paving, in the Village of Rhinebeck, East Market Street will be closed this week:

    • Monday November 13, 2023 from midnight - noon, westbound on East Market Street from the Rhinebeck Savings Lot to the light, and

    • Tuesday November 14, 2023 from midnight - noon, eastbound on East Market Street from Le Petit Bistro to Samuel’s.

  • Information wanted after deceased woman found in Fishkill – The New York State Police is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts or activities that led to the death of Jaqueline L. Orzeck, 37, of Middletown. Orzeck was seen in the vicinity of William and Hasbrouck Street in the City of Newburgh on November 1, 2023. She was found deceased in the Town of Fishkill the following day, November 2, 2023. Anyone with information is asked to contact the NYSP at 845-677-7300 and refer to cast #11693828. Source


  • The New York State Police is also looking for help identifying the above individuals in relation to an investigation for passing counterfeit bills in the Town of Hyde Park.  Anyone with information regarding the possible identity or whereabouts of these individuals is asked to contact the New York State Police at (845) 677-7300, and refer to case #11688855.

  • Free non-emergency trips for Dutchess County seniors – The Office for the Aging of Dutchess County is partnering with GoGoGrandparent, a start-up on-demand ride sharing service geared towards offering older adults transportation to non-emergency medical appointments. The service is aimed towards Dutchess County seniors who are not eligible for transportation services via Medicaid, according to the OFA. During the pilot phase of this program, the OFA and GoGoGrandparent will be providing a limited number of free, non-emergency medical trips for Dutchess County senior citizens, wherever local Uber and Lyft drivers are available.   • Regular firearms hunting season for deer and bear begins on November 18 and continues through Sunday, December 10, 2023. New York has over 550,000 hunters, 85-percent participating in New York’s Southern Zone. Daily hunting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise and continuing 30 minutes after sunset.
