The Hudson Valley Pollinator Action Guide to be unveiled: On the morning of Tuesday, May 7, Partners for Climate Action Hudson Valley will release a “go-to resource for protecting threatened native pollinators using Hudson Valley native plant species. This online tool covers site selection and preparation, plant selection and sourcing, and project installation and management. All information is targeted to the Hudson Valley bioregion, and accessible to land managers at any scale, from home gardens to hundred-acre fields. The Guide includes an in-depth plant list designed to support nearly 100 of the Hudson Valley's most vulnerable pollinators, and documents practical lessons learned from pilot plantings installed in 2023.” Register for the webinar to learn more about the guide, here: climateactionhv.org/events/introducing-the-hudson-valley-pollinator-action-guide

The Westchester Land Trust (WLT) announced it has permanently protected 40 acres of land in Cortlandt through a donation from the landowner with support from The Nature Conservancy. The property is adjacent to WLT's McGregor Pond Preserve and increases the size of the preserve to nearly 112 acres. The newly preserved land is entirely State-protected wetlands and will not have public access. There are two streams on the property that are tributaries to the Peekskill Hollow Brook, which provides drinking water to the City of Peekskill. According to the DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program, the enlarged McGregor Pond Preserve is in the top 1% for wetlands protected and top 5% for riparian habitat protected in the estuary. It is also part of a core forest, providing high quality habitat and significant biodiversity of plants and wildlife. More than 50 species of birds are believed to use the property, including the American woodcock and the wood duck. This new acquisition was also listed as one of the highest priority parcels for conservation in the most recent Cortlandt Open Space Plan.

Artists wanted: The Putnam History Museum, with grant support from the Putnam Arts Council and in collaboration with the Southeast Museum, invites artists to contribute to a new exhibition titled “Revolutionary Visions: Women of the Hudson Highlands during the American Revolution.” “Revolutionary Visions” aims to merge art with regional history by commissioning local artists to create works that breathe new life into the historical narratives of women from different social classes, races, and allegiances during the American Revolutionary War. This exhibition will pair new artworks with historical maps, sketches, paintings, prints, and written interpretations to offer visitors a deeper understanding of women’s roles and the Hudson Valley’s significance during the American Revolution. The exhibition, set to open October/November 2024, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the reimagining of our shared history through the lens of art, highlighting the influential roles women played during the American Revolution. The exhibition will be on view at the Putnam History Museum in Cold Spring and then the Southeast Museum in Brewster. Deadline for Submission: May 15, 2024 Submission Requirements: Interested artists should submit their name, resume or CV, and 2-3 sentences expressing their interest in the project. Please include a link to your portfolio, website, or social media pages (or, please attach 3-4 examples of your previous works).
