Gas cap tax to take effect for most counties, Putnam delayed

Residents around the region will begin to see a bit of relief at the gas pump beginning this week.

As of June 1, most counties across the Hudson Valley – except for Putnam – will be capping the county sales tax on the first $3 per gallon of gasoline. The Putnam County Legislature still needs to approve the county’s gas tax cap, and has delayed the implementation of sales tax relief until September 1, 2026.
