Overnight construction on Mid-Hudson Bridge approach to close lanes on Route 9

Overnight construction this week will close lanes of Route 9 as part of an extensive project to “rehabilitate deteriorated components” of the east end approach of the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

The Mid-Hudson Bridge East Approach Rehabilitation Project started in the fall of 2025 to “address significant structural, maintenance and safety needs on the east approach spans of the Mid-Hudson Bridge. The project is designed to improve the service life and safety of this critical Hudson River crossing, through comprehensive deck reconstruction, viaduct infill, significant repairs, and safety upgrades,” according to officials with the New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA).

Nighttime roadwork will take place from May 4 through May 8, 2026 from 8pm to 6am. One shoulder and one lane of Route 9 will be closed between Main and Laurel streets to allow for work to take place on the deck above.

The right lane of Route 9 will be closed overnight in the beginning of the week, and will shift to the left lane later in the week.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge opened on August 25, 1930. On the first day of operation, 12,000 automobiles and 10,000 pedestrians crossed the Mid-Hudson Bridge, for free. More than 14 million vehicles crossed the Mid-Hudson Bridge in 2025, according to NYSBA.

The Bridge Authority asks all motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs, and reduce speed when driving through the work zone to help ensure the safety of both workers and fellow travelers.
