A quarterly test of the emergency notification sirens at Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan will take place on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 between 6 and 6:30pm.

The sirens will sound at full volume for four minutes, which will be heard from Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties.

Sirens are not a signal to evacuate. In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune in to a local Emergency Alert System (EAS) radio or television station for important information and direction.

Indian Point Energy Center is home to one operating nuclear power plant, Unit 3, which generates approximately 1,000 megawatts of electricity for homes, business and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County. Unit 1 was permanently retired in 1974 and Unit 2 was permanently retired in 2020.
