During the training, participants will learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose and how to properly administer Narcan, which is a fast-acting medication that can be used to temporarily reverse the effects of an overdose. Up, up and away! The Aerodrome is set to begin a new season of high-flying action with antique air shows every Saturday and Sunday! The Saturday "History of Flight" program highlights the Pioneer Era before World War I and the Golden Age of Aviation in the 1920s and 30s. The Sunday air show is the World War I dog-fight spectacular, with a hero or heroine, the villainous Black Baron of Rhinebeck, scenery, pyrotechnics and a World War I tank, along with many antique automobiles. There are usually between 15 and 20 flyable aircraft for each show, including a 1909 Bleriot, a Fokker DR-1 Triplane and a precise replica of the Spirit of St. Louis. Open-cockpit biplane rides — which offer stunning views of the Hudson River and the surrounding highlands — are available before and after the air shows from 10 a.m. until twilight. Beatriz Cortez: The Volcano That Left: Beatriz Cortez will present new and recent large-scale works for her first solo museum presentation on the East Coast + Ugo Rondinone: the sun and the moon. Set against Schunnemunk and Storm King Mountains, Ugo Rondinone’s the sun and the moon, comprises a pair of 16-feet tall delicate circles fashioned from cast-bronze tree branches. The exhibition is built upon the principles of two celestial forces representing contradictory, codependent, and complementary values. Developed in collaboration with a distinguished committee of scholars, “Black Americans, Civil Rights and the Roosevelts, 1932-1962” centers the historical voices of many Black community leaders, wartime service members, and ordinary citizens who engaged the Roosevelt administration directly and who pushed for progress. Within this context, the exhibit examines the political evolution of both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt regarding racial justice. Join vermiculture expert Monique Bosch as she takes us on a deep dive into the microbial strata of soil health and shows how to improve it. In the first part of the workshop, Monique will zoom in at 400X magnification to identify the beneficial microscopic critters that live in healthy soils. Then we'll learn how to increase their numbers with worms, so that we can grow the healthiest plants and most nutritious food. To that end, the event will adjourn to Rudy McEntire's nearby garden for a demonstration of worm composting. Three different vermiculture setups will be shown, and we’ll learn to brew compost tea, an elixir that feeds beneficial microbes and enriches soil with plant-available nutrients. Music Director Leon Botstein opens the Bard season with a concert juxtaposing two distinct styles of Viennese music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries: the melodies of Franz Lehár and the Strauss brothers, and Mahler’s Sixth Symphony. The performance begins with an overture of music from Lehár’s well-known 1905 operetta The Merry Widow, written in 1940 to celebrate the composer’s 70th birthday. This is followed by two dance pieces: Eduard Strauss’ train-themed polka Bahn frei!, and his brother Johann Jr.'s Emperor Waltz, composed for the 40thanniversary of Emperor Franz Josef’s crowning.
