Plein Air Drawing Class at the Cornish Estate Ruins

This class is for students of all ages focusing on drawing in the Hudson Highlands at Northgate (the old Cornish estate). Students will be instructed to create observational drawings at the site. Instruction will include pencil types and their uses, shading, blending and how to build a drawing. This class will also include history about Thomas Cole and the Hudson River School. All materials will be provided & no experience necessary! This class will meet at the Hudson Highlands State Park Parking Lot and hike up to the site as a group. This is the parkig area on Route 9D across from Little Story Point (3011 NY-9D, Cold Spring, NY 10516). Please bring a bagged lunch for our mid-day picnic lunch break. Thom Johnson is a lifetime resident of the Hudson Valley who has used ruins as inspiration for much of his work. Thom was the Art Teacher for the Irvington High School for over 30 years. Bibiana Huang Matheis and Mimi Czajka Graminski return to Window On Hudson to share their years-long remote collaboration: Bibi-Mimi Monday Memo. “Hudson Memo” gives us the opportunity to both take a peek into their archive from hundreds of hours of collaboration and to view new work which they have created specifically for the windows. How does Bibi-Mimi Monday Memo work? Once a week, during the same hour of the day, each artist works in their separate studio with the intention of tuning into the same creative channel. They do not speak or make any kind of plans beforehand, but at the end of each session they compare notes on their inspiration, their state of mind and the work produced. Joseph Bertolozzi's Bridge Music is a unique sound-art installation featuring the Mid Hudson Bridge as the instrument itself. It was created by sampling the sounds of bridge’s surfaces (guard rails, girders, etc.) with various mallets and using those sounds to compose the music. No processing was used, you hear the Mid-Hudson Bridge itself. The resulting album reached the Billboard Top Twenty Classical and Classical Crossover Charts in 2009.
