First annual Hike for the Hudson

Goin’ across the mountains, to benefit the river

First annual Hike for the Hudson runs through September, supports the work of Clearwater, virtually

One of the questions I usually ask when I’m interviewing someone, especially our Marketplace makers, is: What do you like to do here in the Hudson Valley?

Aside from eating, a necessary daily function regardless of place, the majority of people say: Hiking.

“The works of man dwindle, and the original features of the huge globe come out. Every single object or point is dwarfed; the valley of the Hudson is only a wrinkle in the earth’s surface. You discover with a feeling of surprise that the great thing is the earth itself, which stretches away on every hand so far beyond your ken,” John Burroughs said upon reaching the top of Slide Mountain.

Hiking is certainly one of the most quintessential experiences here in the Hudson Valley, and starting September 1 through September 30, you can take a hike and, at the same time, help the Hudson River.

The first annual Hike for the Hudson is a virtual, non-competitive hiking challenge to raise funds for Clearwater, the non-profit environmental group founded by folk icon Pete Seeger and friends in 1966 to bring awareness to the health of the Hudson River and its tributaries after years of toxic pollution.

Join the HVNY team for the 1st annual Hike the Hudson, a virtual, month-long event to benefit Clearwater

Support the river one step at time, raise some funds and log some miles hiking – like the 153 miles the HVNY team is going for! – a nod to the 153 miles the Hudson River estuary flows both ways, from the Troy dam to the Battery in NYC.
