Manhattan's East Village – Three Decades of Madness by Wesley Gottlock

Manhattan's East Village – Three Decades of Madness by Wesley Gottlock

$22.99

From the 1960s through the 1980s the East Village of Manhattan experienced changes that no one could have envisioned. The tumultuous years brought about stark contrasts. Crime, poverty, drugs, arson, displacement, anarchy, and AIDS tore through the heart of the area. But throughout much of that time an artistic community evolved and flourished attracting thousands of artists, musicians, writers, poets, and filmmakers. From hippies to radicals and revolutionaries, the historic melting pot simmered and often boiled over. (327 pages)

Name: Barbara and Wesley Gottlock

What county do you live in?: Orange

How long have you been living/working in the Hudson Valley?: Since 1978 (Rockland and Orange)

Where or what are your favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley?: We love lecturing at different venues because we like sharing our work and meeting fantastic people. We have presented well over 200 programs. Our commitment to Bannerman Island remains strong. We love supporting the arts, the restaurants, and finding "new" sites worthy of research.

Biography: When we retired, both us became interested in Hudson Valley history. When we moved to a condo overlooking the river we could see Bannerman Island. Our interest was piqued and we took one of the first public tours to the island in 2004. We immediately became involved in various capacities with the Bannerman Castle Trust (now going on 19 years). Our research culminated in our first book Bannerman Castle in 2006 along with Thom Johnson. Six more books have followed pertaining to local history in the HV and NYC and we write as interesting topics are brought to our attention.
