Meet the Maker:
Name: Jennifer Hoertz
What county do you live in?: Putnam
Biography: Brief Biography: I studied millinery when I was at school in London. I loved the sculptural aspect of blocking a hat and creating shapes that make sense sitting on the head. Hats are transformative and emotional they create an air of confidence while at the same time keep us warm and protect us. Hats are an outward display of our self. I strive to create wearable luxury that is relevant to what is going on in fashion while still remaining true to my vision of simple shape, sourcing vintage and interesting trims and of course the classic techniques and materials used in millinery throughout the ages.
How long have you been living/working in the Hudson Valley?: We moved to Brewster 15 years ago. I have been a milliner for 28 years.
Where or what are your favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley?: I love exploring the regions and finding other makers and like minded creatives. I enjoy hiking, gardening, cooking and the more rural setting of my own home and surrounding areas.
