  • Federal offices, including the stock market and post office, will be closed on Thursday, January 9, for a National Day of Mourning throughout the United States in honor of President Jimmy Carter. Carter, who died at 100 last Sunday, was the longest living president in US history.


  • Nor’easter no’mo? Over the weekend, early GFS forecasting models showed significant snowfall for our region this weekend, with over 20-inches of snow expected in parts of the mid-Hudson region. On Sunday night, the models shifted the storm seaward, lowering the chances for a big snowstorm this weekend.   • DEADLINE EXTENDED: Poets wanted! Arts Mid-Hudson is seeking nominations from “individuals and organizations, both within and beyond these counties, to celebrate poets who inspire, empower, and enrich the Mid-Hudson region. This initiative aims to bring poetry into our daily lives, engage our youth through education, and strengthen our cultural community.⁠” Deadline to submit a nomination is 11:59pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Poet Laureate will be appointed to a one-year term, allowing for one additional consecutive one-year term based on the availability of the poet. The position is an honorary position without a salary. Nominations may come from individuals or organizations within or outside Uster County. Poets may self nominate.   • The Department of Public Works in Orange County is now accepting Christmas trees for disposal at the Newburgh and New Hampton transfer stations until January 31, 2025. All trees must be natural and free of any ornaments, including tinsel, lights, and bases.



  • In the City of Kingston, Christmas trees & wreaths will be picked up curbside throughout January. Please remove all ornaments, decorations, tinsel, fasteners, lights, and stands.



  • Call for submissions: Original submissions are open for the third annual March Monologue Madness at the Morton Memorial Library and Community House. All genres welcome. Pieces must be 7 minutes or less in length. Scripts or video clips must be received by January 31, 2025.
