Widow Jane Mine

Widow Jane Mine, Rosendale

For 100 years, the cement that supported building of landmarks across the country including the Brooklyn Bridge, Erie Canal and Statue of Liberty came from…Rosendale.

The Widow Jane Mine began producing cement in 1837, but today, because of its acoustics, a sloping floor, and an occasional drip, it has become a performance space unique to the Hudson Valley. (Just don’t forget your sweater, even in summer, as it’s always a constant 55-degrees in the mine!)

The site, maintained by the Century House Historical Society, also includes the access to the original AJ Snyder house from 1809 – complete with the original Brooklyn Bridge gate from the 1940s.

Location: 668 Route 213, Rosendale
Cost of admission: $5 donation
Hours: Grounds and mine open Monday through Sunday, from 10am to 4pm. Museum is open Sundays from 10am to 4pm, from Mother’s Day through Labor Day. Closed in winter.
