Photos: 2023 Kingston Artists Soapbox Derby

Seventeen gravity-driven vehicles tested their brakes, and the speed of Gravity Patrol volunteers, as they made their way down Broadway in the City of Kingston for the Kingston Artists Soapbox Derby on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

The artist-created cars included a homage to Pee-Wee, a Pink Cadillac, a cohort of Mario Kart characters, an oversized slice of pepperoni (complete with glass of red wine), a unicorn blowing bubbles, and our personal favorite, a replica of OceanGate’s ill-fated Titan, which sped past another entry on its way down Broadway, as the announcer relayed that they weren’t sure what the vessel was made of, or if it had any working brakes at all…though it successfully made its way down the Rondout for the derby after party featuring a performance by Professor Louis and the Crowmatix.
