Name a bug for someone you “love” to be eaten (for a good cause)
The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in Cornwall is offering a very special Valentine’s Day opportunity to show that special someone something truly special: a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach named in their honor getting eaten by one of the animals at the museum, photo or video available.
“Nothing lasts longer than a roach, so it could be sent as a symbolic gesture about how long your love will last or exactly the opposite,” according to John F. Calvelli of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
For a one-time $25 donation, recipients will get a digital certificate along with a photo of one of the nature museum’s Animal Ambassadors eating a cockroach in their name/in their dishonor. For $100, the recipient will receive a digital certificate and photo, plus a personalized video of one of our Animal Ambassadors eating the cockroach.
“Declare that your love will last forever, send a message that the recipient is an unwelcome presence in your life, or enjoy for yourself,” the museum notes.
Cockroaches are part of the normal diet for the selected Animal Ambassadors at the Hudson Highland Nature Museum, which include resident frogs, turtles, snakes and lizards.
Registration for this unique donation opportunity closes on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 3pm.
