Area Congressmen plan town halls
Waitlist-only for Pat Ryan’s in-person meeting in Poughkeepsie, Lawler via telephone
“Every single day, I am fighting to make the Hudson Valley more affordable, more safe, and more free,” says Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18). “That all starts with hearing from you.”
Members of Congress serving residents of the Hudson Valley are feeling the increasing pressure to talk with their constituents directly as a flood of federal changes have been rushing in with the new administration.
“Trump’s proven he only works for his billionaire cronies. His plan is to take away your health care to give them even bigger tax cuts,” Ryan said at a rally in Rhinebeck over the weekend, “Silence is not an option, we must get louder.”
Ryan will hold a town hall in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 6 to 7pm to talk with residents and answer their questions. The address for the event will be provided to those who register to attend. The event is currently at capacity; those interested in attending can sign-up to be added to a waitlist.

Lawler to hold tele-town hall, in person dates TBA
Congressman Mike Lawler (R, NY-17) will hold a tele-town hall on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 5 to 6:30pm. Sign-up to listen in and answer questions at https://lawler.house.gov.
Lawler also says four town hall events will be planned across his district over the next three months – April: Rockland, May: Westchester, June: Putnam and Dutchess. Further details, including dates and specific locations, have not been announced.
“These events are an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, ask questions, and hear about the work I’m doing in Washington and here at home,” Lawler said in the announcement. “I look forward to seeing you there and hearing from you!”
Lawler’s previous town halls, including in Rockland County last November and in Westchester County in December, have been closed to the press, and only open to residents of his district, with promotions for the event noting that “proof of residency may be required.”
A reporter for The Highlands Current, a non-profit media organization based in Lawler’s district, was prevented from recording, taking photos or asking questions at one town hall in Putnam County, “and spectators could only query Lawler if their numbered tickets were drawn from a basket.” A petition is urging Lawler to open his town halls to the press.
On Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 1-3pm, organizers from the ACLU and Rockland Sierra Club will be holding a “Town Hall – With or Without Mike Lawler” at Dramatic Hall, 900 Main Street in Peekskill. “Mike Lawler is invited to attend, and he should do so if he has any interest in hearing from those who are affected by his actions before he votes on consequential bills. For our part, we refuse to wait until it's too late to make our opinions heard.” Register for the event.
Josh Riley (D), Representative for New York’s 19th District in Congress, recently announced a tele-town hall meeting scheduled with constituents.
