Season’s first Winter Storm on the way

The season’s first Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Hudson Valley with snowfall expected to begin before daybreak on Tuesday and continue until late Tuesday night.

A winter storm watch is in effect from 7am Tuesday, December 2, through 1am Wednesday, December 3, 2025 for Dutchess, Columbia, Greene, Orange, and Ulster counties. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Rockland and Putnam.

Amount:
Snowfall amounts of 3 to 6-inches expected with up to 8-inches possible at higher elevations. Rain could mix with snow resulting in less accumulation in the lower Hudson Valley.

Timing:
Snow will move in from the west between 6 and 8am, and ending after dark, between 4 and 7pm.

Travel:
The weather service says travel could be dangerous on Tuesday, especially during the evening commute as roads become covered and visibility decreases. School closings and delays are anticipated.

“There is a higher than usual uncertainty in snowfall amounts,” forecasters with the National Weather Service in Albany says. “A slight shift in the storm could result in additional changes to the snowfall forecast.”

Following Tuesday’s storm, temperatures are expected to plummet on Thursday night with lows in the single digits, and another inch of snow is possible for Saturday.
