Be sure to check out some Hudson River critters in the fish tank and join the captain at the helm to take a turn on the tiller. The Clearwater is a 106-foot replica of the Dutch vessels that sailed the Hudson in the 18th and 19th centuries. The brainchild of folk musician Pete Seeger and his wife, Toshi, the Clearwater was launched in 1969 — at a time when the Hudson was suffering from decades of industrial pollution — and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 for its groundbreaking role in the environmental movement to resurrect and preserve the mighty river. Click here to reserve tickets for this event.

Frederick Douglass Day
Saturday, July 29, 12 – 4pm
College Hill Park, Poughkeepsie
There are many examples of people in Dutchess County who have heroically championed the fight for equality in America, from the Abolitionist Movement through the Civil Rights Movement. Celebrated activist, writer and orator Frederick Douglass — who had escaped bondage in Maryland and went on to become an iconic figure in the antislavery and women’s suffrage movements of the 19th century — delivered an inspirational speech at the Collegiate School in Poughkeepsie (now College Hill Park) on Aug. 2, 1858, and implored the audience of 4,000 to demand justice and end slavery in the United States. In commemoration of this important event, the City of Poughkeepsie and the nonprofit organization Celebrating the African Spirit have joined forces to present the third-annual Frederick Douglass Day on the site of his impassioned speech. Music, food and performances will honor the significance of Douglass' speech and applaud the local people who were in attendance and witnessed history that day. Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival: Henry V
Continues July 29, July 31, August 2, 6, 14, 16, 20 and 21 at 7:30pm
Cost: $10
2015 U.S. 9, Garrison, NY
This Shakespearean epic follows a charismatic warrior King and his cohort through the brutality of warfare, as the ragtag band confronts heavy opposition and their own destinies in an aggressive pursuit of the French crown. Henry V is a deeply ambivalent play about leadership, and the power of language and storytelling to shape our collective identity. The play’s central question – What kind of leadership would it take to forge a resilience and unified band of brothers and sisters from a fractious and anxious group of individuals? – resonates with fresh urgency in our contemporary world. hvshakespeare.org/production/henryv/

By age 14, he caught the eye of international animal expert, Marc Morrone, who immediately cast him on an animal segment of The Martha Stewart Living Show.  Jacinto is now a federally licensed master animal handler. His permits now allow him to work with native wildlife, dangerous wildlife, and endangered species.
