A Tall Ship docks in Kingston

What was it like to explore the Hudson River for the first time? What about…the world, 500 years ago? Get the chance to go aboard a Spanish-built replica of a 16th century tall ship that Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan captained during the first circumnavigation of the world.

The replica vessel, Nao Trinidad, will dock at the Hudson River Maritime Museum’s riverfront marina in Kingston and will be open for public tours from September 19 through October 8, 2023.

The original Nao Trinidad was the flagship of the Magellan-Elcano expedition, a fleet of five ships leading the first sail around the world between 1519 and 1522, and was one of only two ships to successfully travel from Sevilla, Andalusia to the Spice Islands, (though it ultimately sunk in the Moluccas after a violent storm). The replica of the Nao Trinidad is a full-size ship weighing 200 tons, and measuring 29 meters long and 8 meters wide, with four masts, five sails and five decks. Kingston is one of Nao Trinidad's last stops in the United States before heading back to Spain.

Deck tours are available Wednesday through Friday, 11am-5pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 11am-6pm. Tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $5 for children aged 5-12. Children under 5 years are free. A family pass is available for $35 (2 adults and 3 children). Additionally, ticket holders will be able to access the Hudson River Maritime Museum for the discounted rate of $5 per adult and free for children. Tickets may be purchased online at https://www.hrmm.org/naotrinidad or in-person at the docks beginning September 19. (Note: Purchasing advance tickets online is strongly recommended.)
