Meet the Maker:
Name: Cara B. Hochhalter
What county do you live in?: Dutchess
Biography: I am a relative newcomer to the Hudson Valley but created art, mainly of the wildflowers from places I have lived across the country. When I moved to Hyde Park, just before the pandemic, I became intrigued by the interactions between native plants and the pollinators in my yard. Last year, I self-published a book of watercolors and block prints of flowers, birds and pollinators of this area. I encourage people to plant the native plants that will provide for our pollinators because they are losing their habitats.
What year did you start living/working in the Hudson Valley?: I moved to the Hudson Valley in 2019.
What are some of your favorite things to do in the region?: I love walking the trails, particularly at the Farm Lane, Vanderbilt, and Mills Mansion; all near where I live in Hyde Park. I also love the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie.
